SIMULATED EMERGENCY TEST!! (SET)
Hurricane Zelda will hit the gulf coast this morning with 157 mph winds.
SIMULATED EMERGENCY TEST!!
Deep South Amateur Radio club conducted it's first SET (simulated emergency test) yesterday (Oct. 1st) with thirty ham radio operators participating. Richard White (W4OFP, ARES coordinator) started the SET off by announcing Hurricane Zelda hitting the gulf coast and AL. gov's office ordering evacuation of those in the affected areas. Chuck Miller (KD4NGA, ARES coordinator) assisted Richard and monitored the "simulated emergency test". There were enough actors in this SET to cover all modes of ham radio including DStar (which gave us extra points).
Bud Stacey's annual tailgater (enjoyed by all!) was in full swing but this did not slow down the SET and it was conducted the entire three hours it was scheduled for. Numerous "simulated" scenarios were called into the control net operator with a second net control operator standing by.
"Practice makes perfect"
We weren't perfect but had this been a real emergency we are getting much more acclimated to what is expected by EMA and of SET operations because of you!
A big "thanks" to the thirty that participated in yesterday's Simulated Emergency Test in making our proficiency better and being prepared WHEN the time comes.
